Viagra (sildenafil) is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or keep an erection for satisfactory sexual activity in men, also known as impotence. Sildenafil belongs to a class of medications called phosphodiesterase type5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Viagra works by relaxing muscles found in the walls of blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation to get and keep an erection. Keep in mind that Viagra does not cure erectile dysfunction or increase sexual desire.

Pharmacologic blockade is one of the best-studied classes of anti-sildenafil. The mechanism of action of sildenafil, also known as dapoxetine, is to block the synthesis of prostaglandins by blocking their degradation enzymes. Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors are the most widely prescribed of all phosphodiesterases, with an incidence of 5% in the general population. The clinical significance of PDE-5 inhibitors in erectile dysfunction has not yet been defined, but PDE-5 inhibitors have been shown to be more effective in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). PDE-5 inhibitors are primarily indicated for the symptomatic treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men, but their use has also been associated with increased rates of symptomatic BPH. A review of the literature indicated that PDE-5 inhibitors are efficacious in the treatment of ED in both men and women, although the clinical benefits of PDE-5 inhibitors are generally uncertain. While PDE-5 inhibitors are generally considered effective in the treatment of ED in men, they are not as effective in the treatment of ED in women. The purpose of this article is to review the available literature regarding the use of PDE-5 inhibitors in the treatment of ED in women. As the evidence to date is mixed, the available literature does not address the efficacy and safety of PDE-5 inhibitors in the treatment of ED in women.
Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitorsThe primary indications for use of PDE-5 inhibitors in women are for the symptomatic treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). The most common indications for PDE-5 inhibitors in women are for the treatment of men with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or pulmonary arterial hypertension in women with a uterus. PDE-5 inhibitors are approved for the symptomatic treatment of ED in men and women with the diagnosis of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Erectile dysfunction is a complex and multifaceted condition, and many women with ED have no underlying medical or psychosocial problems that may contribute to their condition. In the past, it has been estimated that approximately 1 in 10 women with ED would benefit from the treatment of ED, and approximately 1 in 12 women with ED would benefit from the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It is also estimated that approximately 1 in 2 women with ED would benefit from the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
PDE-5 inhibitors (the class of drugs known as PDE-5 inhibitors) are a class of medications that inhibit the enzyme phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5). It has been estimated that approximately 1 in 10 women with erectile dysfunction would benefit from the treatment of erectile dysfunction with PDE-5 inhibitors. However, the use of PDE-5 inhibitors in women has not been evaluated.
Erectile dysfunction is a significant health problem that affects men with the ability to attain and maintain an erection. It is estimated that approximately 4-6% of men with ED will have a degree of ED that is sufficient to attain or maintain an erection when they are sexually stimulated. Furthermore, it is estimated that approximately 1 in 10 men with ED would benefit from the treatment of erectile dysfunction with PDE-5 inhibitors. However, the use of PDE-5 inhibitors in women is generally contraindicated.
The dosage recommendations for PDE-5 inhibitors are based on the results of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, placebo-controlled, multicenter clinical trial. Patients should be switched from oral therapy to an alternative medication. The initial recommended dosage is usually 25 mg to 100 mg orally once daily. In patients who do not respond to oral therapy, the initial recommended dosage is usually 50 to 100 mg orally once daily. If the patient has difficulty swallowing the tablets, the dosage may be increased to 100 mg orally once daily. If the patient cannot tolerate oral therapy and the patient is unable to swallow tablets, a lower dosage may be recommended.
The use of PDE-5 inhibitors in women is generally contraindicated.
